Greenpower
Greenpower USA is a premier Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
(STEM) program that provides young minds a hands-on, project-based learning
experience that is engaging and builds critical skills. The Greenpower Electric Car
Challenge was founded in 1999 in the United Kingdom with the goal of enhancing the
teaching and learning of STEM through a highly engaging and inspirational
design-build-race competition. The Greenpower Challenge has a major an emphasis on
sustainable, multi-disciplinary, and cross-curricular applied-learning.
Greenpower supplies teams with a car building kit which can be used to build an
electric race car in school, college, or other organizations and then raced at
Greenpower organized events.
Completing the car build will require members specialize in different rolls to contribute
to the team. Some rolls focus on building and engineering or event specific positions
such as drivers or pit crew. Other rolls will require PR and media skills plus public
speaking to present information and data. Team members will learn how to be both
well prepared and how to adjust to immediate changes. In the process of implementing
and evaluating the effectiveness of these changes, members learn that they must work
together for their team to be successful.
